Listing another beauty from my collection, only to make room for other beauties… I listed this canvasback new, only because it is in condition as when bought new-beautiful paint, original, no scuffs, or dents. I want to note in pictures 3 & 4, there has always been a close line of birthmark natural indentations in the wood on the black part of his chest, that werent completely sanded out; but original paint is completely covering them. Just want to note that in case of questions about those photos. So I pass this along to someone who may enjoy it. It is very beautiful, Ive found it to be my favorite Big Sky Canvasback ever made. On bottom, date says 1999, and it is numbered #4551 by the artist, Gordon Alcorn. It is a wonderful example, original red glass eyes. He has been cared for greatly, and is ready for a new home. Big Sky Carvers Preening Canvasback Drake Decorative Decoy withStamp and Print
This is a Big Sky Carvers Special Edition Decoy made in 1996 for Ducks Unlimited of Iowa. The photos shows the special brand on the bottom. The decoy is signed by what appears to be “Chi Thiu, ” but we are not certain of that name. There is a 1996 Iowa Ducks Unlimited Stamp attached to the botttom. The stamp is of Canvasbacks in flight but not of this preening decoy. We had an unframed print and stamp of the 2002 South Dakota Migratory Bird Stamp of three swimming Canvasbacks that we thought went well with the decoy also. The decoy is 12 x 6 x 8 inches and weighs 2 pounds, 4 ounces. The print is matted but not framed and the outside dimensions are 16 x 14 inches. We always are happy to find a Big Sky Carvers Decoy and this one is a favorite. It is in virtually perfect condition with no marks or damage of any kind. The preening Canvasback is just so well done and being a Special Edition makes it even better and much less common. Surely a treasure in any man-cave, cabin, den, or lodge and a wonderful gift. This is a stunning Canvasback Decoy from Big Sky Carvers and signed on the bottom by Kim Stephens and dated 9/11/2006. It is pre-owned but in like new condition. We could find a tiny dent on the side of the head but it may have always been present. The pictures show that it has an oversize head in proportion to the body which shows off that uniquely Canvasback beak. The finish is a combination of paint and stain that allows portions of the wood grain to show. It is large, measuring nearly 21 inches long, 8 inches tall, 8.5 inches wide, and weighs nearly five pounds. Kim Stephens has been a highly regarded for her Big Sky Carvers decoy painting since the early 1990’s. It would be a great addition to any man cave or collection of decoys. We were unable to find another like it in our searches so it is not real common or readily available.
