1991 Big Sky Carvers Bozeman MT 21 Mallard Ducks Unlimited Decoy John Gewerth

This listing is for a hand-carved wooden duck decoy made for Ducks Unlimited. The underside is clearly marked Ducks Unlimited 1991 – South Dakota – Special Edition, produced by Big Sky Carvers, Bozeman, MT, and is signed by the carver John Geuerth on the bottom. Original Ducks Unlimited medallion is intact. This is a solid wood decoy, nicely weighted at approximately 4.98 lbs as shown in the photos. Approximate overall size is 21 inches long, about 7 inches wide, and about 8 inches tall. The paint and carving detail are very well done, with natural feather texturing and classic mallard coloring. These are cosmetic only and do not affect the structure or appearance when displayed. No cracks, repairs, or breaks observed. This appears to have been a display piece, not a field-used decoy. The wood is solid, seams are clean, and the carving remains tight and intact. A great example for collectors of Ducks Unlimited items, Big Sky Carvers work, or hand-carved wooden decoys. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description and show exact condition, markings, measurements, and weight. Rest assured all items are packaged securely, I don’t want your item broken in transit, and I know you don’t either.

John Gewerth Big Sky Carvers Master's Edition Mallard Drake Decoy S/N

This is a Decorative Mallard Master’s Limited Edition Drake Decoy carved by John Gewerth for Big Sky Carvers of Manhattan, MT. The photos give a great description. Notice that its head is turned almost in a preening position. It is typical of Big Sky Carver’s Decoys, finished with a combination of paints and transparent stains so the wood grain is visible in places. Underneath it has a Medallion which is numbered 419 of 1250 so there were a number of these made. Still, we were not able to find another currently listed. Virtually perfect, it is a bit larger than life size, measuring 13 inches from breast to tail. It is 6.25 inches wide, 7.5 inches tall, and weighs just over 3 pounds. We have a weakness for Big Sky Carver Decoys and this one is extra nice. It is not dated but they moved in the early 1990’s to Manhattan, MT, so we are guessing, late 1980’s was when it was made. John Gewerth is one of their well known carvers and the Master’s Edition Series Decoys were selected in a kind of competition from their carvers. Anyway, it is a wonderful decoy, one that anyone familiar with Big Sky Carvers will appreciate. We invite your inspection and offer.
