This is a Common Loon Decorative Decoy made by Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, MT. It is signed on the underneath by J Oriet and has the name’Common Loon written by her but it is not dated. It also has on the underneath a brand that says, Made Exclusively for Cabela’s, Big Sky Carvers, Boseman, MT. It is hand painted and finished with a combination of paints and stains that capture the loon’s beauty. Near life size, it is 17 inches from beak to tail and weighs 1 pound, 13 ounces. Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, Montana, made a range of decoys from the late 70’s, some of which were made for other companies such as Cabela’s for sale in their retail stores. They employed a number of local artists who became very skilled in painting and finishing the decoys which were much sought after during those years, and still today. In the 90’s Big Sky Carvers Company shifted their production out of the U. His is a wonderful, quite uncommon decoy.
