Big Sky Carvers Green Head Drake Decoy for Man Cave, Cabin or Lodge This is a Big Sky Carvers Green Head Drake Decorative Decoy signed on the bottom by C. Fellows (Craig) and dated 1982. It is finished with paint and transparent stains that allow the wood grain to show through. It is a lovely stylistic decoy in near perfect condition for a decoy nearly 36 years old. We could find a tiny area of discoloration on the top of the head but it may have been there when the decoy was made. Typically, Big Sky Decoys have a branded logo on the bottom but this one does not have the logo for some reason. Possibly they had not begun using the branded logo yet as of that date in 1982. It is 15.5 inches long, five inches wide, and 4 inches tall and weighs about one 1.5 pounds. It is an unusual. We were unable to find any similar to it being offered. Big Sky Carvers Decoy- Greenhead Drake Man Cave, Den, or Lodge
This is a Big Sky Carvers Greenhead Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy that was made in 1982 in Boseman, Montana. It is in near perfect condition with the exception of a very small dent on the front forehead. It is small, measuring 10.5 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 5.25 inches tall. It weighs just over 15 ounces. Big Sky Carvers was founded in 1980 by Eric and Mark Pierce in Boseman, Montana. They employed a number of local carvers and, expecially artists, to paint their variety of machine and hand carved decoys and their company became quite well known and successful. This decoy we thought was interesting for a number of reasons. It is from their early days as a company because it does not have their branded logo on the bottom and it is unusual to find one of their decoys that is not signed by the artist. It also appears to us to be a Mallard Drake painted onto a body intended to be another type of decoy. Anyway, we though this little guy might appeal to someone who collects Big Sky Carvers decoys. Big Sky Carvers S. McMurry Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy Man Cave, Den or Cabin
Big Sky Carvers Pierce Brothers began making decorative decoys in their garage in the early 80’s in Boseman, Montana. They hired artists from the surrounding area to finish and paint their decoys and many of those artists became quite well known for their work. Eventually, the company expanded their product line to a varitey of animals, often bears and at some point the company changed ownership. Their decoys are not uncommon but depending on the artist and decoy, some are quite rare and they are not easily found. This Pintail drake dated 1999, signed by Sally McMurry, and numbered 1033 is one of my personal favorites and we invite you to take a closer look. It is in like new condition. It is near life size, 20 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, 7 inches tall and weighs over 2 pounds. Carved from solid wood, it is painted and stained to allow the wood grain to show through and is just very well done. We searched but could not find another like this one being offered. They are not available for sale any more from the company and owners just hang onto them. These Big Sky Carvers decoys are a great gift idea for any sportsman and look so good in that man cave, cabin, lodge, or den. We really cannot imagine anyone ever sending this one back.
