Big Sky Carvers Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy-Craig Fellows
This is a Big Sky Carvers Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy. It was finished by one of their very talented and highly respected artists, Craig Fellows, and it has his signature on the bottom. It also has the Big Sky Carvers Brand from Boseman, Montana, and writing that says Sport Art Decoys. Big Sky Carvers moved from Boseman in 1985 so we are guessing this gentleman is close to 40 years old. There photos give a clear description. You’ll notice that it is finished with a combination of paints and transparent stains, so typical of Big Sky Carvers’ Decoys. We loved how the artist gave it sort of an antique look. It has a few tiny nicks but is perfect for the most part It is close to actual life size being 18.5 inches from beak to tail. It is 7.25 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and it weighs one pound, 12 ounces. Big Sky Carvers was established in the early 1980’s and their decoys were very popular at gift shops and especially at Ducks Unlimited events and auctions. They are getting harder to find and this particular one is quite uncommon. It would be a special find/gift for a collector of their decoys or anyone who loves Pintails. We think they are one of the most beautiful of all waterfowl. We know how to pack these guys so their fragile necks and tails are safe.
Hand Carved Hooded Merganser Drake Vintage Wooden Decorative Duck Decoy Signed
This artist signed hand-carved and hand-painted solid wood decoy represents a Hooded Merganser drake, identified by its distinctive oversized, fan-shaped white crest with a black border. This Big Sky Carvers decoy features the striking plumage characteristic of the species, including a black head and back, chestnut (brown) flanks, and white vertical bars on the breast. The slender, pointed black bill and yellow eyes are also key identifying features of this North American diving duck. The hand signature of Cherie Rowan indicates the specific artist responsible for the intricate painting or carving of this piece.
Big Sky Carvers Ethan Allen Canadian Goose Decorative Decoy-Signed/Dated
This is a Canadian Goose Decorative Decoy. It is stamped on the bottom with the Ethan Allan name logo but it was finished by Anne Madsen, has her signature, is numbered #10, and is dated 1984. Photos provide a good description. It is finished with paints. Feathers have a brown edging which is slightly raised. The decoy is in near perfect condition but It does have a bit of pine sap that has bled through the paint on its white behind area and we left that as we found it. It is smaller than life size, measuring about 13.5 inches from beak to tail. It is 6.5 inches tall, 5inches wide, and weighs 2 pounds, 3 ounces. In the 80’s Ethan Allen had a number of decorative decoys made by various companies for sale as accessories to their furniture lines. Big Sky Carvers did a number of them and we are guessing this is one they did. We thought it a nice decoy, one that would not take up much space in your well appointed office or den.
