Big Sky Carvers Antique Series Greenhead Drake Decorative Decoy K. Basta
This is a Big Sky Carvers is painted with Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy signed by K. It is painted with a paint that gives a drying cracked antique look which is sort of appealing and we believe was one of a series they did in the 1990s. We have had a few other Big Sky Carver decoys by K. Basta and they were all very well done. This one is quite unique and we were not able to find another identical to it. It is in like new condition with no marks or damage that we could find. Please look at the photos. It is near life size, 16 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, 7 inches tall, and weighing 2 pounds 4 ounces. It is harder and harder to find Big Sky Carvers Decoys such as this one. Their new lines are often made of resin in China. We really prefer the original ones made in Montana and, even though this is not their earliest, it is still made in America. It would be very nice in a man-cave, den, lodge, or cabin, places where you just never have enough decorative decoys. Big Sky Carvers S. McMurry Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy Man Cave, Den or Cabin
Big Sky Carvers Pierce Brothers began making decorative decoys in their garage in the early 80’s in Boseman, Montana. They hired artists from the surrounding area to finish and paint their decoys and many of those artists became quite well known for their work. Eventually, the company expanded their product line to a varitey of animals, often bears and at some point the company changed ownership. Their decoys are not uncommon but depending on the artist and decoy, some are quite rare and they are not easily found. This Pintail drake dated 1999, signed by Sally McMurry, and numbered 1033 is one of my personal favorites and we invite you to take a closer look. It is in like new condition. It is near life size, 20 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, 7 inches tall and weighs over 2 pounds. Carved from solid wood, it is painted and stained to allow the wood grain to show through and is just very well done. We searched but could not find another like this one being offered. They are not available for sale any more from the company and owners just hang onto them. These Big Sky Carvers decoys are a great gift idea for any sportsman and look so good in that man cave, cabin, lodge, or den. We really cannot imagine anyone ever sending this one back. Big Sky Carvers Bufflehead Drake Decorative Decoy Man Cave, Cabin, or Lodge
This is a lovely Big Sky Carvers Bufflehead Drake decorative decoy painted by K. It has the Big Sky Carvers, Boseman, Montana, logo branded on the bottom but it is not dated. The decoy is close to life size, about 10 inches from beak to tail. It is 4.25 inches wide, 5.25 inches tall, and weighs about 14 ounces. This one is in near perfect condition but it does have a few tiny dents on its back and they are visible in the photos. We have loved Big Sky Carvers’ Decoys for many years. They typically are painted by extremely talented artists who used stains and paints to bring them to life. They were often found in Ducks Unlimited events and have been made since the 1980’s. They make a wonderful gift for any sportsman and look great in any man cave or collection. Big Sky Carvers Preening Canvasback Drake Decorative Decoy withStamp and Print
This is a Big Sky Carvers Special Edition Decoy made in 1996 for Ducks Unlimited of Iowa. The photos shows the special brand on the bottom. The decoy is signed by what appears to be “Chi Thiu, ” but we are not certain of that name. There is a 1996 Iowa Ducks Unlimited Stamp attached to the botttom. The stamp is of Canvasbacks in flight but not of this preening decoy. We had an unframed print and stamp of the 2002 South Dakota Migratory Bird Stamp of three swimming Canvasbacks that we thought went well with the decoy also. The decoy is 12 x 6 x 8 inches and weighs 2 pounds, 4 ounces. The print is matted but not framed and the outside dimensions are 16 x 14 inches. We always are happy to find a Big Sky Carvers Decoy and this one is a favorite. It is in virtually perfect condition with no marks or damage of any kind. The preening Canvasback is just so well done and being a Special Edition makes it even better and much less common. Surely a treasure in any man-cave, cabin, den, or lodge and a wonderful gift. This is for a Big Sky Carvers Drake wooden decoy. It is a Ducks Unlimited Special Edition, from 1991. Has artist signature, Thomas Chandler. It is 15″l x 7-1/2″t x 7w.
