Orvis Big Sky Carvers Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy
This is an Orvis Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy made for Orvis by Big Sky Carvers of Montana. It is unsigned and undated but has the name , “Orvis by Big Sky Carvers, ” on the underneath. In the 1990’s Orvis contracted with Big Sky Carvers to create a variety of decorative decoys which were marketed by Orvis. They are no longer available from Orvis and are fairly difficult to find. Many were signed by well known Big Sky Carvers artists but this one is not. But it is a very beautiful and unusual decoy with intricate painting and staining of the bird’s feathers and features. It is in like new condition with one minor flea bite of a mark on the tail and some discoloring in the paint on its front that appears to be sap from the wood from which it was carved. It is 18.5 inches long, 6.25 inches wide, 7.25 inches tall, and weighs 2 pounds, 7 ounces. Pintail Drakes are just a spectacularly beautiful bird and this carving really compliments their beauty. Please look closely at the photos. We were unable to find another like it being offered anywhere but have no information on how many were actually created. This is a hand carved wooden moose designed by Jeff Flemming for Big Sky Carvers of Montana. He measures 17 long and 12 tall with an antler span of 16.. The antlers are detachable and they appear to have 2 different wooden dowels holding them on (PLEASE REVIEW MY PICTURES). It has a small scrape into the darker wood stain on one side of his muzzle..
