Big Sky Carvers Chris Hindley Collection Decorative Mallard Green Head Decoy Fat
This is a Big Sky Carvers, Hindley Collection, Decorative Green Head Mallard Decoy. It was carved in 2003 and designed by artist Chris Hindley who is known for unique and stylistic carved decoys. It is in near perfect condition but does have a couple of slight dents on the right side of the head. The rest of the decoy is without flaw. It is 23 inches from tip of beak to tail, 5.75 inches wide, 7 inches at the highest part of the tail, and weighs 3 pounds, 4 ounces. We have loved Big Sky Carver Decoys for many years and this one is one of our favorites. We have had one other of the Hindley decoys, a carved pheasant, in a somewhat similar position, with the head lowered and the tail raised as if getting ready to scare off another feathered rival or intruder. The Hindley Decoys are not common if an internet search is any indication. This was the only one we could find available for sale. Please look at the photos and ask any questions. We thought it an unusual gift for anyone who loves waterfowl and great decoys, especially with Father’s Day approaching. This is a stunning Canvasback Decoy from Big Sky Carvers and signed on the bottom by Kim Stephens and dated 9/11/2006. It is pre-owned but in like new condition. We could find a tiny dent on the side of the head but it may have always been present. The pictures show that it has an oversize head in proportion to the body which shows off that uniquely Canvasback beak. The finish is a combination of paint and stain that allows portions of the wood grain to show. It is large, measuring nearly 21 inches long, 8 inches tall, 8.5 inches wide, and weighs nearly five pounds. Kim Stephens has been a highly regarded for her Big Sky Carvers decoy painting since the early 1990’s. It would be a great addition to any man cave or collection of decoys. We were unable to find another like it in our searches so it is not real common or readily available.
