Big Sky Carvers Orvis Exclusive Collection Pintail Decoy- Signed-Man Cave, Cabin
This is an Orvis Exclusive Edition Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy. It was carved for Orvis by Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, Montana, and is signed by J. Oriet but not dated. The decoy is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind that we could observe. It is typical of Big Sky Decoys in that it is finished with paints and transparent stains that give it a rich, natural appearance. It measures about 20 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 6.75 inches tall. It weighs 2 pounds, 5 ounces. Big Sky Carvers made a large number of decorative decoys for many years. This decoy is one of a series they made for the Orvis Company. Pintail Ducks are fairly common in our area and are personal favorites. The drakes are just a beautiful bird and this decoy represents them very well. The decoy’s value is enhanced with the Orvis logo. It would look very nice in any man-cave, cabin, or lodge. Orvis Big Sky Carvers Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy
This is an Orvis Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy made for Orvis by Big Sky Carvers of Montana. It is unsigned and undated but has the name , “Orvis by Big Sky Carvers, ” on the underneath. In the 1990’s Orvis contracted with Big Sky Carvers to create a variety of decorative decoys which were marketed by Orvis. They are no longer available from Orvis and are fairly difficult to find. Many were signed by well known Big Sky Carvers artists but this one is not. But it is a very beautiful and unusual decoy with intricate painting and staining of the bird’s feathers and features. It is in like new condition with one minor flea bite of a mark on the tail and some discoloring in the paint on its front that appears to be sap from the wood from which it was carved. It is 18.5 inches long, 6.25 inches wide, 7.25 inches tall, and weighs 2 pounds, 7 ounces. Pintail Drakes are just a spectacularly beautiful bird and this carving really compliments their beauty. Please look closely at the photos. We were unable to find another like it being offered anywhere but have no information on how many were actually created. Photographed in as found, pre-cherished, excellent estate condition. Measures approximately 17 long, 6-1/2 tall, and 5-3/4 at its widest point.
