Big Sky Carvers Large Greenhead Duck Decorative Decoy-John Gewerth

This is a large Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy made by Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, Montana. It is signed by John Gewerth on the underside but not dated. It is typical of Big Sky Carver Decoys in that it is finished with a combination of paints and transparent stains so that much of the wood grain is visible. Gewerth has been with Big Sky Carvers for a number of years and it is possible to find many examples of his work. We could not find this particular decoy being offered anywhere so we though someone might find it and add it to their Gewerth Collection. It is in fair to good condition with some small dents and dings. There is a hardly visible line between the neck and the body which we just noiticed when listing it. We are not sure if it is where the head was originally attached or if it has been repaired. If it was repaired it is the best job we have ever seen. The decoy is 20 inches long, 7 inches wide, 8 inches tall, and weighs 4 and 1/2 pounds. On the underneath side this decoy is signed by what appears to be persons honoring another friend or co-worker. We know nothing of any of their history and considered a light sanding to remove the names, many of whch are not legible. We decided to let a new owner make that decision. I do not think I would offer this one as a gift as it has a few small imperfections. Possibly someone who knows Mr. Gewerth and collects his work might be most attracted to it. We welcome a reasonable offer and have discounted our listing price to reflect its condition.
