Pheasant Big Sky Carvers Kenny Durham #1731 Hand carved Painted wood 1999
This is a stunning wood carving by Kenny Durham of Big Sky Carvers of Montana. It’s a life-sized ring-necked pheasant. The piece is all of one block and the body is just lightly stained and sanded to show shading suggesting primary feathers and subtle coloring. The head has the vibrant red cheeks of a male ring-necked pheasant on a green stained head. This piece is clearly created by a master. Note how the wood grain shows through and clearly suggests feathers. These pieces are rare on the market and highly sought after. This came out of the estate of a collector. See photos for details. Big Sky Carvers Chris Hindley Collection Fighting Rooster Pheasant
This is a hand painted carving of a Rooster Pheasant done by Big Sky Carvers based upon an original by artist, Chris Hindley. It is dated 2005 but is not signed by an artist. The Rooster is in a fighting position and is near life size being nearly 28 inches from beak to tail. It is not numbered and we do not know how many were made but our search did not discover any currently being offered for sale which is not surprising because it is a stunning work of art. Why would anyone part with one of these! We have two of them. It is about 21 inches tall and 4.5 inches at the widest part of its body. It is 27.5 inches from its beak to the end of its tail and it weighs 2 pounds, 5 ounces. Big Sky Carvers created some wonderful carvings, mainly of waterfowl in the Boseman, Montana area for a number of years. Their decorative decoys were usually so well done. They employed a number of local artists to finish their carvings. The creator of this particular carving, Chris Hindley is from the U. And is known for creative carvings. This one is our favorite. Look it over closely and see what you think. It is fragile with that long wood tail but in wonderful condition. There may be a small dent or tiny nick in a couple of places but nothing of any consequence. It appears like new. Pricing is a guess but these are very nice and difficult to find.
