John Gewerth Big Sky Carvers Master’s Edition Mallard Drake Decoy S/N

This is a Decorative Mallard Master’s Limited Edition Drake Decoy carved by John Gewerth for Big Sky Carvers of Manhattan, MT. The photos give a great description. Notice that its head is turned almost in a preening position. It is typical of Big Sky Carver’s Decoys, finished with a combination of paints and transparent stains so the wood grain is visible in places. Underneath it has a Medallion which is numbered 419 of 1250 so there were a number of these made. Still, we were not able to find another currently listed. Virtually perfect, it is a bit larger than life size, measuring 13 inches from breast to tail. It is 6.25 inches wide, 7.5 inches tall, and weighs just over 3 pounds. We have a weakness for Big Sky Carver Decoys and this one is extra nice. It is not dated but they moved in the early 1990’s to Manhattan, MT, so we are guessing, late 1980’s was when it was made. John Gewerth is one of their well known carvers and the Master’s Edition Series Decoys were selected in a kind of competition from their carvers.
