Big Sky Carvers Chris Hindley Collection Fighting Rooster Pheasant
This is a hand painted carving of a Rooster Pheasant done by Big Sky Carvers based upon an original by artist, Chris Hindley. It is dated 2005 but is not signed by an artist. The Rooster is in a fighting position and is near life size being nearly 28 inches from beak to tail. It is not numbered and we do not know how many were made but our search did not discover any currently being offered for sale which is not surprising because it is a stunning work of art. Why would anyone part with one of these! We have two of them. It is about 21 inches tall and 4.5 inches at the widest part of its body. It is 27.5 inches from its beak to the end of its tail and it weighs 2 pounds, 5 ounces. Big Sky Carvers created some wonderful carvings, mainly of waterfowl in the Boseman, Montana area for a number of years. Their decorative decoys were usually so well done. They employed a number of local artists to finish their carvings. The creator of this particular carving, Chris Hindley is from the U. And is known for creative carvings. This one is our favorite. Look it over closely and see what you think. It is fragile with that long wood tail but in wonderful condition. There may be a small dent or tiny nick in a couple of places but nothing of any consequence. It appears like new. Pricing is a guess but these are very nice and difficult to find. This is a Big Sky Carvers Hindley Collection Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy. It is dated 8/30/04 but not signed by an artist nor is it numbered. Chris Hindley is a well known, creative carver, whose work tends to be a stylistic, sort of make believe representation. If you are not familiar with him be sure to do a google search and enjoy the images of his work. This decoy is a drake green head that appears to be resting on his breast, getting ready to preen his tail. It is close to life size, measuring 10 inches at its widest length. It weighs 2 pounds, 10 ounces. We have had a few Hindley Carvings, particularly his pheasants. One of my Hindley favorites was a Pintail Drake which one of our kids swiped from me.
