Rare Sandpiper Big Sky Carvers Early Marc Pierce 1981 Shore Bird
Rare early, large, hand-carved wood sandpiper signed and dated 1981 in ink by Marc Pierce of Big Sky Carvers. He was one of the 3 original carvers who founded the company in 1980. There is a tag from the company glued on the base along with the ink signature. A scarce carving from the early days before the company expanded into limited editions and mass production. The shore bird is about 14 inches from the tip of the long, delicate beak to the end of the tail. His dowel leg is about 5 ½ inches tall. The entire piece, including the bark-edge base, stands about 13 inches tall. The base is about 6 ½ inches across at its widest point. The gorgeous bird is beautifully detailed with wings, back feathers, and head stained in various brown tones. It is mounted on an irregular-shaped live-edge wood base.
