Big Sky Carvers Pintail Drake Decorative Decoy-Man Cave, Cabin, Lodge, Den
This is a Pintail Drake Decorative made by Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, Montana. It has their branded logo on the underneath and it is signed by M. Michaels but not dated. Big Sky Carvers relocated to Manhattan, Montana in the early 1990’s so it was made prior to that move. Photos give a very good description. It is finished mostly with paints rather than transparent stains but wood grain shows in places. Also note, some of the paint is purposefully crackled, giving it an antique look. The Decoy is much larger than life-size measuring over 21 inches from beak to tail. It is 9 inches tall, 6.25 inches wide, and weighs nearly 4 pounds. Big Sky Carvers Decoys are all well done and we favor the ones made in Bozeman. We are not familiar with this carver and the name does not show well in the photograph as they must have used a pen low on ink. But what a beautiful job they have done. They employed artists from the surrounding area. Many of them were extremely talented and it shows on this guy. We cannot find even the slightest flaw in this Decoy. Pricing is a guess as we have not seen another like it. We invite your inspection and offer.
Big Sky Carvers Canvasback Drake Decorative Decoy-Man Cave, Cabin, Lodge
This is a Big Sky Carvers Canvasback Drake Decorative Decoy. It was finished by Grace Blake but not dated or numbered. It does have her signature, her writing below her signature of “Canvasback, ” and the Big Sky Carvers branded logo. It is kind of a beast, somewhat reminding us of the oversized Canvasbacks done by Tom Taber. The branded logo says Manhattan, MT, so the Decoy was made sometime after they moved from Boseman, MT, in the early 90’s. It is larger than life-size, being almost 17 inches from beak to tail. It is 8.5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide, and weighs in at nearly 4 pounds. We have loved Big Sky Carvers Decoys from the mid 80’s. We have preferred the earlier ones but this one is very well done and we would not have been surprised to find a date from the 80’s. The photos show the typical finish of paints and transparent stains that enhance the natural beauty of the bird. Anyway, it is in great condition and a worthy gift for anyone who appreciates one of the most beautiful of waterfowl…. Or a well done decorative decoy. At the listed price.
Big Sky Carvers Legacy Collection Wood Duck Decoy-Man Cave, Cabin, Den, lodge
This is a Big Sky Carvers Legacy Collection Wood Duck Decorative Decoy. It is made of solid wood. And painted by hand but unsigned by anyone. It has a cradle stand which has a Medallion that says, Big Sky Carver’s Legacy Collection, Manhattan, MT, EST. The Decoy was found packaged inside its original factory box and it has a Big Sky Carver’s T. Ag around its neck. It measures 12 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 7.75 inches tall. It weighs one pound, 12 ounces. We are not familiar with the Big Sky Carver’s Legacy Collection but did find some others that may have been available from Cabela’s at one time. This one is a nice decoy but does not appear to us to be the quality of craftsmanship that was typical of earlier Big Sky Carver’s Decoys. Still, it is a nice decoy and we can offer it for a bit less. We always recommend a nice decoy as a gift, expecially for a sportsman that may have collected waterfowl in the field. This one would be a treasure for a young water fowler who had the good fortune to even see one of these beautiful birds.

This is a Big Sky Carvers Canvasback Drake Decorative Decoy. It was painted by artist, Chris Lynn, ands her signature on the underneath along with the Big Sky Carvers Logo Brand. It is not dated but the Company relocated to Manhattan, MT, from Boseman, MT, in 1987 so it must have been made after that time. The decoy is life size and in wonderful condition. It does have a small dent on its left side and some tiny marks on the left side of its head. Both have to be in the right light to be visible. It is like size measuring 15 inches from beak to tail. It is 7.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches wide. It weighs 2 pounds 7 ounces. Big Sky Carvers began in Boseman, Montana, in the early 80’s. They are known for making high quality decorative decoys. The employed local artists to finish their decoys and many of their artists were very talented, as this one shows. Their decoys add to about any collection. We love seeing Canvasbacks in the wild and recommend this one as a great gift for any sportsman who has an appreciate for this stunning bird. Big Sky Carvers Common Loon Decoy-Man Cave, Cabin, Lodge, or Den
This is a Common Loon made by Big Sky Carvers of Bozeman, Mt. It is signed on the bottom by its artist, Parke Goodman, and has the Big Sky Carvers Brand on the underneath. There is no date on the Loon but Big Sky Carvers moved their Company from Boseman to Manhattan, Mt, in 1987 so it must have been made prior to that date. The Loon Decoy is close to life size, maybe a bit smaller. It measures 16.5 inches from beak to tail. It is 5.25 inches wide and 6 inches tall. It weighs nearly 2 pounds. This Loon is typical of Big Sky Carvers Decoys in that it is made of pine, hand painted by a very talented artist, and makes a very handsome bird look so good. The paints and finishes they used allow the wood grain to show which adds to their beauty. The Company may still be in business but after an early focus on decorative decoys, they expanded to carvings of bears and other animals, furniture, and other items. If they are still making decoys, they most likely are made in Asia. In my view, the early decoys made in the 1980’s are high quality treasures done by outstanding artists from the local community. Please study the photos and see what you think. It is nearly perfect. We could find one very tiny dent and a couple of white spots on its back where the resin in the pine may have bled through the paint. Big Sky Carvers Master’s Edition Mallard Drake-Man Cave, Cabin, Lodge, or Den
This is a large Master’s Edition Mallard Drake made by Big Sky Carvers of Manhattan, Mt. The Drake is resting on what appears to be a driftwood limb. On the underneath of the limb, there is a medallion that says, Master’s Edition, Big Sky Carvers, Manhattan, Mt. The medallion is numbered 302 of 1250 but we could not find a signature of an artist or a date. The decoy is well done, if fact we wondered if it might be resin so we drilled a tiny hole and the actual decoy is carved from solid pine. The base is made of resin and the decoy carved separately but solidly attached. The Duck is a bit larger than life, measuring 16 inches from its chest to its tail. The carving weighs about 6.5 pounds. We searched for another decoy similar to this one with no success, so it is a bit of a mystery to us. It is well done and quite attractive. We would think a master carver would have signed it though… Anyway pricing is a guess and we invite your offer and any information you may have regarding it. Big Sky Carvers Hindley Collection Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy-Man Cave, Cabi
This is a Big Sky Carvers Hindley Collection Mallard Drake Decorative Decoy. It is dated 8/30/04 but not signed by an artist nor is it numbered. Chris Hindley is a well known, creative carver, whose work tends to be a stylistic, sort of make believe representation. If you are not familiar with him be sure to do a google search and enjoy the images of his work. This decoy is a drake green head that appears to be resting on his breast, getting ready to preen his tail. It is close to life size, measuring 10 inches at its widest length. It weighs 2 pounds, 10 ounces. We have had a few Hindley Carvings, particularly his pheasants. One of my Hindley favorites was a Pintail Drake which one of our kids swiped from me. Big Sky Carvers Loon Decorative Decoy Signed-Man Cave, Cabin, Lodge, Den Decor
This is a Loon Decoy carved/painted by Parke Goodman of Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, MT. It is signed by the artist on the underneath and also has the Big Sky Carvers Branded Logo but it is not dated. The photos give a good description. It is in perfect condition with the common discoloration of a couple of spots on its back where sap or resin from the pine it was carved from has bled through the paint. It is slightly smaller that actual size, measuring 16.5 inches long, 6.25 inches tall, and 45.5 inches wide. Big Sky Carvers were well known in the late 70’s on for their decorative decoys. They employed a number of talented local artists to hand paint their decoys and many of them, such as Parke Goodman, are highly regarded for their work. We always watch for Big Sky Carver Decoys and are very fond of them. They are no longer made in the USA, often made of resin or from Asia, if even available. This one is a wonderful example of a Common Loon and Big Sky Carver’s early, high quality, American product. If you have a cabin by a lake which Loons frequent, you need this decoy badly. This is a Common Loon Decorative Decoy made by Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, MT. It is signed on the underneath by J Oriet and has the name’Common Loon written by her but it is not dated. It also has on the underneath a brand that says, Made Exclusively for Cabela’s, Big Sky Carvers, Boseman, MT. It is hand painted and finished with a combination of paints and stains that capture the loon’s beauty. Near life size, it is 17 inches from beak to tail and weighs 1 pound, 13 ounces. Big Sky Carvers of Boseman, Montana, made a range of decoys from the late 70’s, some of which were made for other companies such as Cabela’s for sale in their retail stores. They employed a number of local artists who became very skilled in painting and finishing the decoys which were much sought after during those years, and still today. In the 90’s Big Sky Carvers Company shifted their production out of the U. His is a wonderful, quite uncommon decoy. If you are lucky enough to own a cabin by a lake with Loons, you really need to consider adding this guy to your collection. It is so well done you can almost hear a Loon calling..
